For 2016, The Symco Shakedown is moving to the EAA facility in Oshkosh, WI.
You can find out more info about the EAA here: https://www.eaa.org/eaa
EAA has offered us the best parts of their facility to put on our event! We are not actually using the show grounds, but the outer facility, which is full of mature shade trees, wonderful park settings and their museum.
We will be using the Pioneer Airport, which is part of the EAA Air Museum. This area will be filled with all the best traditional hot rods and customs we can find. The Pioneer hangers hold about 50 vintage aircraft, newest being from 1949. They will be on display for all to see. Check out the Pioneer Airport page from the EAA website: https://www.eaa.org/en/eaa-museum/museum-exhibits/pioneer-airport
The main portion of the show will be held in the EAA Nature Center, directly to the east of the Pioneer Airport. This is a park setting with mature trees, walking trails and ponds. Directly to the east of the Nature Center will be our VIP parking area for all non-criteria show cars. There will be food and beverage vendors in the Nature Center along with all our Commercial vendors in and around the Nature Center Pavilion. We will also host one of our main stages here.
Campers and swap meet vendors will rest in the western half of Camp Scholler, southwest of the car show area. The swap meet is adjacent to the spectator parking for ease of loading purchased items. We choose to do the swap meet in the campground so the vendors have all the amenities that the campers have....showers, flush toilets, food and beverage vendor and nice large, partially shaded spaces. We will host another main stage in the campground including our Thursday night pre-party.
Vintage camping will also be in Camp Scholler. The area we choose has large mature trees and a stream running through it. There is room for tent camping as well as hundreds of vintage campers.
The general camping not only has spaces that are approx 20x30, but we have a large area with sites that have power and water hookup. Near all the general camping spaces have shade trees. There is a RV dump station on site as well.
Our new location doesn't end there. The EAA Museum is just across the grass runway from the Pioneer and has so much history, you may not be able to contain yourself. From a replica of the Spirt of Saint Louis, to vintage War Birds, you will be amazed at what you see. The value you get from the reasonably priced admission is great. EAA offers discount admission from Wednesday through Sunday of our event. Show them your wristband and et into the museum for only $6! Don't forget, they continued the WWII Nose Art exhibit through the end of the year, just so we can take advantage of that at the Shakedown! Over 30 pieces of ORIGINAL WWII hand painted nose art!!!
We searched long and hard for a venue that can create the vintage feel you love and we think this place nails it. Find out for yourself the second weekend in August!
